hey, after a bit of googling and searching, I can't figure out what John Taylor uses to get that great tone in the song Rio. anyone have an idea? I was thinking a Wal due to how fat and present it sounds...

  2. I think it was an Aria SB 700

Right, either the SB-700 or maybe a SB-1000 if he had it by then. I think there's also a touch of an effect (chorus?) as well.

  4. This is from a Bassplayer magazine online article:

    80s & ’90s Basses
Aria Pro II SB600, Aria Pro II SB1000; Kubicki Factor; Yamaha and Washburn acoustic bass guitars; Steinberger XM-4; Warwick Thumb 5-string; Carruthers electric upright bass; Gibson Les Paul Basses

    That's right, SB-600 which is bolt-on. The 700 is neck-through.

    Aria for sure.

My Warwick Streamer Jazzman nails that tone with the bridge pickup on, in coil tap mode.

  7. Only the very early SB-600s were bolt on. The vast majority are set-necks.

Pretty much any of the SBs ought to be able to nail the JT sound.

Aria Pro II SB 1000 -I always figured? I have an old Bass Player? or Guitar Player? issue where John talks about his basses and a little studio and live performance talk as I recall? (Taylor's in my top 20 fav.s)I'll have to dig that issue out. (wherever it may be???)
