Bass notes on a piano

Discussion in 'Music Theory [DB]' started by agreatheight, Jan 18, 2006.

  1. I had an disagreement with a student and need to make sure I have given him correct information. Can someone please tell me where the low B of a standard tuned electric five string is on an 88 key piano? Also, what is the lowest note a standard double bass (a regular 4 string standard tuned acoustic) can play and where is that on an 88 key piano?

    Thanks in advance!

I think the E string is tuned to E3, so the low B would be B2

  3. Or one octave below where it is written on a bass part which is the fourth b below middle c and the third e below middle c.

The lowest B on electric bass is the lowest B on the piano. The lowest upright note it the E a fourth higher.
