    Mike,

I listened to Double Nick's for the first time in a while today and love your tone. What did use on that album? Also, do you slap on parts, or are you just playing harder?

    Thanks,
    Dave

    hi,

I used my '68 fender tele bass (stolen from my apartment while I was on tour in 1995) before it had emg pickups. it a dimarzio p-bass pickup and a stock jazz pickup by the bridge. the amp wasn't recorded - only a signal from a direct box. "double nickels on the dime" was recorded on an eight-track reel-to-reel machine by ethan james. the whole thing was mixed in one night (fortyfive songs). you can see a picture of the bass inside the gatefold. it's got a natural stain and a black pickguard. later I would remove the pickguard and paint it all white.

I slapped, pulled and hit hard besides playing soft sometimes too. I used a pick on only one song, "s h i t from an old notepad."
