Bass on "Give it to me Baby" - Rick James

Discussion in 'Bassists [BG]' started by sleestak, Apr 19, 2004.

  1. On Rick James "Give it to me Baby" the album it is on shows James with a Ric, but does anyone know if that is the bass and if he actually played on that track?

There is a commercial that starts with the bass riff that opens that sond, and I wanted to find out who and what bass made that music, it sounds great.

    Thanks!

Fantastic song! Sounds like a Ric to me. Great playing IMO - groovy and funky to the extreme.

It was the bassist for the Stone City Band (Rick's backing band). He's also playing on "Square Biz". I forgot his name, but I saw Rick in the '70's and the guy was playing a Stingray, IIRC.
