Does anyone know how Bill Wyman of the Rolling Stones gets the resonant, bouncy bass tone in the song "Lets Spend the Night Together"?
If I don't miss my guess, Keith Richards actually played bass on that one. I remember reading that in Bill's autobiography. ...don't know what bass Keith used though.
Anybody have any more ideas or information on the bass for Let's Spend the Night Together? I can't put my finger on the tone.
According to Bill's 1978 Guitar Player interview, despite all the different basses he's appeared onstage with over the years every album he did with the Stones up until Some Girls was recorded with his weird no-name defretted bass. ...if however, as Rob W points out, it was Keith Richards who plyed bass on that tune, it was probably a Fender Precision Bass strung with flatwounds. I haven't heard that track in ages so I can't venture a guess whether it's Bill or Keith.
