I used to religiously use the green Tortex 0.88mm, but for the last year or so I've been using the German Blue Herdims (1.10mm). I don't think I'll ever be able to use another pick now, they are unreal. The grip is awesome, and you can flip them upside down and use the grippy sides for some great raspy attack up high on the fretboard - the same way The Edge of U2 gets that unique hard edge attack sound for his delay guitar parts. Works great on bass too!
The pick thing is fun. I've been religiously using the tortex .88 triangle for years, but in the studio I tend to keep a little baggy of about 30 different types of picks for the tonal variety depending on the song. I think you can compare them to effects in a certain way since they really do change the tone and approach of the player drastically!
