I bought a bass and got a little over zealous as my fave bass player plays alot of six string bass so i bought an esp ltd d-6 six string bass but i am coming to realize that a sixer is too much for me and i can't get a new bass for a couple months so my question is can i just take the b and c strings off the bass and just leave the eadg as is or would that really disrupt my playing and also should i restring the bass so the e is now in the b spot and so on with the other strings. Any advice would be helpful.

Can you take it back to the shop? They should be ok with a swap for something else.

  3. So its the low B thats the problem? Whats making it an issue?

I wouldn't take the two strings off your bass. It will cause the neck to act differently under the less tension. There wouldn't really be a problem, but It'll just be kinda wierd and you'll have to set it up for the different tension. If the low B is the main problem I'd say your second option is the best choice.

By the way I love six strings, but I use 4 and 5s all the time. If you just give it some good practice you'll get used to it in no time.

How is taking the strings off going to help you? The neck width is what I'm guessing is the biggest problem you are having to deal with.... How long have you had the bass? can you take it back for a refund?
