I have been playing guitar for about a half a year. I have been thinking about starting bass, but i wont stop guitar. For those of you who play both, is it hard to play both if youve only been playing guitar as long as me, or should i wait a while.
To me they are two different instruments. Each one has its own approach, so I don't feel that it is difficult switching between the two. You might try renting or borrowing a bass for a month and see if you are comfortable moving between the two instruments. Dan
I switched over from drums to bass after 26 years,i believe that my musical experience on the drums though different from bass helped me with a head start. If you pick up an instrument with no experience at all it's harder than if you had another instrument under your belt, lets call it a "head start".I at first thought my drumming would sail me past beginner straight into a professional,i thought since both of them are part of the "rythem section"it would be a breeze, but sorry to say it was more like a 10 second headstart than anything else. .As long as playing bass and guitar is what you desire then go for it,if its for the wrong reasons then it will be that much harder to do both,i dont know your reasons nor am i questioning your intentions i am mearely making a point using these as example's.GOOD LUCK
