Amazing...this is like the billionth post telling people that their post is a repost....as if the people who saw the other million threads needed to be told that.

bass in the mix = heaven
    bass "solo" = auditory assault

bass guitar is all about how it fits into music, not on top of it.

  8. I was never fond of bass solos. Well like in that one part of YYZ when Geddy just goes off on his own for a couple seconds, thats cool but bass solos no

I disagree. I find that the bass guitar has a very nice timbre, which makes it sound great in solo situations. But as with any instrument, the important thing is what the instrumentalist has to say. Useless wank is just useless wank.

    So true, universally so.

I often wonder why people that only like e;ectric bass in a certain context choose to play it, rather than something that makes a sound they enjoy hearing in any context.

What exactly did you find awesome about it? It certainly wasn't creative or sonically pleasing. I see it as 6 minutes of my life I'll never get back.

  14. The way some bassists play them? Yes...

But not all bass solos are ugly. Maybe you've just heard alot of bad ones.

Some cats that can solo beautifully:

    Anthony Jackson
    John Patitucci
    Alain Caron
    Tony Grey
    Nathan East

    then don't listen...

seems like a no-brainer to me.
