Hi all, I am new of the forum and I need you help! I have been told by my girlfriend something like "why one should decide to play an instrument like a bass, whose sound sounds like "bom-bom bom-bom"". Well, I then decided to burn a cd of most amazing bass tracks to show her bass is more than "bom-bom". I already have listed few. A track from Joni Mitchell & Jaco Pastorius, Teen Town from Pastorius, Pac Man from Alain Caron. Can you please help me to feed the list by Xmas? Many thanks Cheers all Elb.
Making her listen to bass solos is pointless. Take some of her favorite music and EQ out the bass. Everything below about 200hz. That will show her how important it is.
Why do you want or need to convince your girlfriend ???? It sounds like you need her approval, before you decide to pick up the bass. If you like it, that's all that matters. You, I, and everyone on here knows that her idea of the bass sound is wrong. So why not just leave her to stew in her ignorance. On the other hand, perhaps in some cases she may be right, depending on who is doing the playing.
in most popular music of the past 10 years is almost a low rumble that is done with a synth more than a bass guitar so I think shw is right... and since more people play in sync with the drums ... it does "boom boom boom"
Which is why lz4005's suggestion is great. Filter the bass out of something like this to show how important even the growliest "boom-boom" bottom is
I mean, yes but no. I am a devout dead head, but I'd never show someone a dead song except maybe eyes of the world if I was trying to convince them that bass was awesome..
>> why one should decide to play an instrument like a bass, whose sound sounds like "bom-bom bom-bom Because the bass f rocks! You don't need to show lots of notes with a bass. Even the straightest classic rock rhythm performed by a good player makes music punchy and groovy. End even one bass note can makes mix alive. Like here.
I understand your point. But it's not I seek her approval...instead, I'd like to tease her, letting her listen to some really grooving bass track. I'm sure Alain Caron will trill her knowledge of the bass world. ;-)
