Chris Wolstenholme uses a combination of clean & distorted bass for most of the song, with a sequenced synthbass line added in for one verse. Keep in mind he uses multiple amps to get his sound, and there were up to 4 channels of bass at any given time during the recording!

I get very close using a Big Muff pi run through a Boss LS-2 for the mix, and don't bother with the synth. So, you need the V-amp to give you a blended signal, with a Muff-like distortion.

try it yourself on your v-amp

just mess around with fuzz and synth or a slight octave, you should be able to get a decent sound pretty easy
