Bass with 2 strings!

I love my E and A strings for sure! I'm a true low-end junkie, I do use the D string but as for the G string

 

Aden Bubeck who tours with Miranda Lambert has played a three string bass for a few years.

 

There's a video on Shmootube of a man in Jamaica playing a one string bass, and he rocks.

 

Cool! looked him up neat bass, I could live with that. FWIW I do use the G string some but it never really has the tone I like so I stay away except to add a passing quick passing note, octave or quick riff.

 

And then there is this guy and his one string bass.

 

How about some Morphine. The late Mark Sandman played two strings and uses a slide too.

In particular, Stig Pedersen of D-A-D has many weird-looking 2 strings. Katzenjammer's Contra-Bass Balilika got lots of interest, but I think that may have been for the players as much as the 3-string instrument ;-) somehow the other contra-bass balilika's didn't seem to resonate with the talkbass crowd as much. I'm just guessing it wasn't the cat-face...

 

I built a one string bass out of an old guitar and a long piece of square steel tubing. The neck is so long I had to use an upright bass E string, and I have three octaves of notes!

I built it mainly as a joke, but it does work on a lot of songs.

A friend saw the Sex Pistols in St. Louis and he said that at the end of the show Sid had just one string left.

My homemade two string bass thingy. Started out as a one string, I added a string to double the awesomeness.

 

I bet he didn't even play that one.

 

LOL - I made my signature line as a retort to the often-used bit about Jaco with 4...

 

I have a two string. Custom from Krappy. Love it

 

Brushy One String... Yes, he rocks, and only using one string tuned in C...

 

I've been thinking of converting an old bass I have laying around two a two string just for funsies.
