@BassCliff I'm really interested to hear how you like the UBass, once you have a chance to try it in a live setting. I'm considering buying the same model, as a backup for upright gigs. A few weeks ago, the bridge on my Eminence EUB snapped midsong at an outdoor gig. No warning or sign of any problems. Fortunately one of the band members lived two blocks away and had an electric bass hanging on his wall. I figured that the UBass might be the best option for an easy to carry backup - I'm playing mostly bluegrass/Americana in a 5 pc band.

Thanks for the great report, Cliff! Glad to see the pretty girls still follow you around, and good to see how the "New Nornal" is working in Lost Wages.

  6. I’d love to compile all the @BassCliff gig reports into a Viewfinder series. That would be pretty darn awesome.

A big Happy Birthday greeting to my SoCal bass amigos.

That is a different looking Ubass, the one I tried looked more like a ukelele, just couldnt get on with those rubbery strings, I imagine it takes a bit of getting use to

    Hey gang!

I'm sorry I haven't been keeping you abreast of the situations here in Fabulous Las Vegas. I've been doing a lot of beer drinking, sleeping late, making music, plus rehearsing every day in Arnie's room. It's fun working up new tunes. We didn't do all of our new material this weekend but we're learning stuff for some upcoming winery gigs. Anyway, let's talk about Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday Arnie, Paul, and I had to make a run to pick up some supplies. We drove past where @G19Tony works, McCarran Airport.

We ended up at the Las Vegas Guitar Center. It was actually a pretty nice store. The people who work here seem to care. I'm squinting because it was bright and REALLY HOT this weekend.

I had to take a selfie in front of the bass wall and this old Kustom 300 PA setup.

We were like kids in a candy store but I got out of there buying only a 1 foot patch cable and a couple of 2032 batteries. Arnie needed strings and Paul bought an analog delay pedal.

When we got back to the hotel I was really hungry so I immediately went to the Sad Cafe. The Thai chicken and spicy catfish were really good today.

The crowd started off pretty good Saturday night and got better as the night progressed.

Here's the rhythm section for tonight's festivities. Dave's had a ton of material to lean and he did a fine job.

    Arnie says, "Pull my finger."

My good friend @G19Tony was in the house with his lovely girlfriend Kris. I got to play the U-Bass he gave me while they were in the audience. I like using the Kala U-Bass on the bluegrass tunes we've worked up.

The crowd stayed pretty full all night long.

This must be the end of Saturday night. Johnny's already got his boards covered.

After our last set we decided to spend our tip money at the bar.

The lovely Melba joins me for a selfie, mask off.

This is how we left the stage Saturday night.

Back in my room I enjoyed one more cold one. Lagunitas makes some good brews. This one is wheaty, hoppy, has a dry finish, and with 7.5% a couple will do you good.

I'll be back in the next post to finish the weekend. Then there's nothing left but the drive home after I meet @wintremute for breakfast on Monday morning. Thanks for looking!

    Thank you for your indulgence,

Sunday was a real treat. I visited @G19Tony and he showed off his collection. This guy has more instruments than I do. He had a really nice Glarry (that $65 P-bass that is just a steal) and the cutest little Squire mini P-bass that is just to die for, the red one you can just barely see hiding between the full-sized instruments. He even had a two string bass.

Tony and I had a nice visit and made plans for the next time I'm out this way. Here I am back at the casino following Gov. Sisolak's guidelines.

Sunday night in the honky tonk our friend @andysvec and his beautiful wife Cindy came by for a visit. Andy told me tales of woe and agony with all the rooms being closed in the area. But he and his band will be back at Gilley's a couple weekends next month so I guess things are starting to look up.

Sunday night was a nice crowd. It's not your normal crowd but there were as many people in the place as state mandates would allow. It's actually nice to have people sitting in front of you, paying attention, and groaning at all my dad jokes.

Johnny Magic Fingers was magic tonight.

Arnie and Paul played like they never played before.

It was a really good weekend. Now I'm going to finish my beer and get horizontal. After breakfast tomorrow I've got a long drive home. I just hope the traffic isn't too bad with everyone going home after the holiday weekend.

I'm not sure when we'll be back here but I'm hoping we'll get at least one more weekend before the end of the year. We had a ton of fun playing real country music for real people.

    Hey Matt!

Thanks! It's great to get out of town and make some noise. Yes, we are trying our best to follow the rules, be considerate, and have good, safe fun. I hope you and yours are doing the same. Take care.

    Hi Dave,

Well that's unfortunate. But I'm sure the stars will align eventually. I'd like to meet you IRL. I hope and pray that by next year we will be back in our regular rotation here at Gilley's. We usually play here 6 weekends out of the year, about every other month.

Thank you very much. But I think the "real pro" thing is pushing it a bit. ;) I'm just an old country bass player who's managed to fall in with a pretty good crowd. They put up with me. :D It's really great to be playing again.

I forgot to ask you how your U-Bass sounded out front. It sounded great in my IEMs so I hope you liked it. Thanks for all your hospitality this weekend. I'll be looking forward to some extra activities the next time I'm back in town.

    Hi guys!

Thank you Dan. A couple of places in town have been shut down because of non-compliance. This honky tonk wants to stay open so they seem to be doing it right.

Please let us know! I hope you didn't get rained out.

Ha! Yes, I guess I was pretty happy this weekend. :D

Aww shucks. I'm not really a professional musician, beer critic, cigar snob, etc, but I play one on the internet. :roflmao:

Thank you. I know there is hope. I hope we all start posting more gig reports soon. :)

Arnie has quite the guitar collection, and he's actually thinned the heard by about half recently.

You are very welcome. I hope and pray that normal comes back, along with common sense, kindness, decency, and courtesy. I'm glad you like the non-bass stuff. Bass players have to eat and drink beer too, ya know? :D

You are welcome. Thanks for the kind words. :)
