Hello friends, Yeah, I know, I know. It's only a rehearsal but it's been so long it almost felt like the first time. We are rehearsing for the 40th Anniversary of Urban Cowboy. This show was supposed to be at Gilley's in Las Vegas. It was rumored that Mickey Gilley himself along with Johnny Lee were going to make guest appearances with the Country Club Band doing the honors of backing them. The big shutdown nixed that idea but we're playing the show on the Facebook interwebs anyway. We're not very far along into "phase 2" of opening but there was still quite a bit of traffic on the way to Arnie's garage studio/practice space. We all squealed with joy because Amanda, Claire and I could take a selfie again. Jason was the only mask in the room and he didn't play too loudly. Maybe he should wear a mask all the time? Arnie points at his favorite bass player in the room. Johnny Magic Fingers used the house piano. Arnie has a well-equipped studio with just about everything we need. I just brought my new Kiesel PB5 and plugged into the house Rumble. Here we are, rehearsing away, singing songs, playing instruments, just the way God intended. Here is a portion of Arnie's collection hanging in his control room. And a shot of the console. One of these days he'll learn how to use all this stuff. I had picked up a new (for me) IPA from a brewer I like, Stone FML Double IPA, but I didn't drink it last night. I got home too late and it was warm. I'll try it tonight and let you know how I like it. I'm not a big IPA fan but Stone has a couple that I actually like. We'll see how this one goes down. We have another dress rehearsal tomorrow. I won't be able to host our weekly Zoom GTG meeting, sorry. Our Gilliey's live stream will be Friday night, please login and watch, heckle, and toss lots of emojis. Saturday we are "taping" our live stream for the Temecula city park concert series to be aired on our scheduled date that was cancelled. That stream we are getting full pay for, nice. For the Gilliey's stream we'll be getting "exposure bucks". Oh boy. But it will be an easy night so we'll give'em one for free just because we like them. Next weekend we have a real gig, a private party, playing in front of real live people. I wonder if I remember how? It's good to see others posting about their gigs and rehearsals. Thanks for sharing! I'm looking forward to lots more. Thank you for your indulgence, BassCliff
Congrats! Looks like a good time. We were supposed to get together tomorrow night. Sadly, out keyboard player had a family emergency. I miss my band! Thanks for spreading some joy! (Be prepared. The fun vacuums will be along any time now to ruin things. )
Very cool. Glad to see you folks "Back In the Saddle Again"! I'll surely try to tune in Friday. (Just got my portable, four-camera, livestreaming rig completed today. Hopefully I'll something to post in that regard soon.)
My man... I bought a multipack with three of these in it... good stuff! I know you weren't gone, but it's good to see you back! Spidey
Great to see you guys again! (We're almost there!). Nice studio, by the way. And, how could it possibly be too hot to drink a beer?!
Oops! I misunderstood. I thought you meant the temp outside was too hot for the beer. In fact, you meant the beer itself had gotten too warm, right?? (Don't mind me....)
Hi guys! (URL to Gilley's FB event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/2637998543186822 ) Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing in the fun. Sounds like a nice setup. Rob, our sound guy and host for our livestream event, ordered a couple of nice cameras and a switcher but they did not arrive in time. We ended up shooting the video with an iPhone and pumping the audio from the soundboard. Thank you. You know, I really enjoyed that Stone FML Double IPA, for not being a porter or a stout, it still checked all the boxes for me. It's not grapefruit citrus-y like a lot of IPAs but had just enough other fruit and berry flavor to be refreshing. I liked the body, a little thick but not too. The finish had just enough malt and a touch of bitter. It's an all-around nice beer. I'll keep my eye out for it. There you go. Yes, I had picked it up on the way to rehearsal thinking I'd share afterwards but the rehearsal ran too late. I just took it home and enjoyed it the next evening. It's good to see you too, Dan. Hey Mike! Yep, he's got lots of gear, especially now that he's starting up his own production company. He's actually sold off about half of his guitar collection. He still has lots more than what you see in the studio. He's probably got guitars he hasn't played in years. Thanks, I appreciate that. Thank you Scott. I'm really trying to help the world recover as quickly as possible. Remember, love makes the world go 'round. Thanks Chris! I have yet to play a "real" gig but it will happen soon. We were supposed to play a private party before the end of the month but I don't see it on the calendar now. Drat. Actually, there's lots of stuff on Arnie's webpage calendar but it's not happening. We'll get back going again soon. Thanks Nate! There were a few rough spots and we muscled through them. At least half of that material was brand new to us but I was pretty happy and had a lot of fun. The recording sounded a lot better than the mix in my IEMs. I was fighting that the whole set. You know, folks would get excited and start playing louder and my IEM mix would go south. All I could do is turn it down and smile. You folks are too good to me. Thanks for stopping by. Take care. Thank you for your indulgence, BassCliff
Darn it, forgot about the live stream last night. Hope ya'll had fun, its nice to just get back to playing even if it is just in front of a camera. Im looking forward to next weekends Winery gig, so far the weather looks tenable so hopefully a few people show up to enjoy the show. This weekend its all about painting the deck, ho hum Edit: just watched the "rerun" as we used to say. Got to love that on demand live streaming stuff. Soundin good guys and gals, cant wait to see all of you live again one of these days.
