    Hello friends and neighbors,

No, not the Four Seasons Hotel. Me and the KRB played the Four Seasons at Beaumont, a 55+ community. The community puts on five concerts during the summer in their little amphitheater and I must say, they are great hosts and everyone had a great time. We did this gig without a keyboard player but the band really poured their hearts out for this crowd so it wasn't missed. Everyone had fun and were very appreciative.

It was a pleasant day to drive out to the low desert, not much traffic at all. I just set my cruise control to 70mph and rolled on down the slab.

I had the shortest drive to this gig but it was still just shy of an hour. I pulled into a very nice gated community.

This is a fabulous facility. I was told several times that it is affordable too. The clubhouse was very nice.

The staff was very accommodating. We got to park as close as were able.

We still had to roll our gear past the large pool.

We rolled through the lovely grounds past the tennis courts.

We made our way to the little amphitheater.

I was the last to arrive. I get that pleasure because I live the closest. It looks like everyone is set up.

The amphitheater was full of lawn chairs. The residents had to wait until 11am to place their chairs and claim their spots. It's going to be a good crowd.

Kelly had to make a run to Wal-Mart but got back in time for sound check.

We had a quick sound check and the stage is all set.

Here's the view from the back of the house.

This is the FOH mixer. I'm sorry I didin't get a picture of the sound guy. He's a resident here and is actually an Emmy award winning sound man, Stan Sweeney. Among other things he used to be a boom operator for a daytime soap. Check it out. We only had one monitor mix but Stan did a great job with our sound in this intimate venue.

We made our way to our green room, past the circular garden.

We walked across the beautifully kept lawn to the clubhouse.

We were directed to one of their activity rooms. We had plenty of space.

We were given cute bags of snacks, chocolates, cookies, bananas, etc. I brought the fig bars. I needed a little sugar rush.

The band was written up in their community magazine.

Perhaps they need a proof reader. I thought it was nice that they wrote us up a bit. They gave us copies.

As we made our way back the the amphitheater these lovely ladies let me take their picture in front of the prize table. There were raffle prizes.

I'll be back in the next post to finish up this engagement. Thanks for looking!

The crowd is excited to have us. I was told this was the biggest attendance they've had for a summer concert, almost 400.

I think Daniel looks a little nervous.

Art tunes up just before we get started.

I take a quick selfie just before down beat.

This is Mark, our emcee and the guy who hired us. He is a real nice guy to work with.

I guess Mark said something funny. The band is cracking up.

And it's on with the show! I gave my camera to Mark so he could take some photos from out front. For some reason the crowd was really entertained.

Sometimes the dancers were so close I had to be careful not to hit anyone with my headstock. A few times it got really crowded on my side of the stage.

    We are having fun now!

I'll bet I was singing "Wagonwheel".

    Yep. That's my "Wagonwheel" face.

Kelly had some friends come out tonight to visit. This is Kathy.

We took a short break so some raffle prizes could be given away, then we were right back at it.

I also had a friend visit. This is Mr. @DocGeorge, who drove in from Indio, about 45 minutes farther out in the desert, just to see us play. It was wonderful to meet your wife and your boys. I'll be sure to wave at you when I drive by Star Wars. ;)

Another shot of the talent just before we start another tune.

    "The Kid".

Kelly wasn't ready for this selfie.

This nice lady was taking video on her phone all night. Dena has seen us before and was very glad we could play here.

Daniel is closing the show with "Devil". We ended up doing two encores.

Then it was time to do the roadie thing again. At least I got to leave my gear in the van all week. Since we were playing five nights in a row it saved me a bunch of loading and unloading.

Thankfully after five gigs this week I have only three gigs next week. It will seem like a vacation. Thanks for coming along with me. Please share your gigs too!

Next week I'll be with True Willie on Wednesday in Laguna Beach then Fri-Sat with the KRB at The Ranch. September looks like it's busy but October will start to slow down, I hope. This old man needs a break.

    Another goodie, Cliff.

I'm doing my best to get The Fab 8 booked into the same community, as my bandmates in The Ravelers recently performed there as well. They apparently have 2-3 different areas where they set up bands to perform, although I have no idea how the decide who plays where. It certainly looks like a nice group of people.

Well done, and thanks for sharing!

Great job, Cliff and Co.! Tell Kelly, if I was 20 years younger...

... my back probably wouldn't hurt as much... since it's all behind me, I don't worry about it, too much... :D

Very nice report, sir! As I get older, (69 and counting...) I have to wonder. How can I get the KRB to play for ME??!! Thanks for posting, looks like you all had a great time, catch you at the Ranch!!

    Hi guys!

After five gigs in five days I'm happy to go back to my day job where I can get some rest. :D

Everyone in the band except Mario could be a resident there. I told Art to take it easy on these folks, volume wise, because some of them are as old as he is. :D

Thank you. You couldn't ask for a nicer bunch to play for. Everyone was so very nice.

They are beautiful people. A couple of folks had brought their kids or grandkids. At one point Kelly mentioned how much these folks liked to party and someone in the audience said, "We're retired, not dead!"

Thanks! I know, getting old isn't for wimps. ;)

    Good morning! :)

Very good! Yes, we'll be streaming live Friday and Saturday night. It should be fun.

    Thank you for your indulgence,

    Hi guys,

Thank you. I don't know about "great". Well, it was a great audience. I think this was my favorite gig all week.

Hi Derrill! I certainly enjoyed meeting you and your beautiful family. Mrs. DocGeorge is gorgeous and your young lads are handsome. You are blessed. I hope to see you guys again.

I always say, "If you had half as much fun as I did, then I had twice as much fun as you!" ;) I know how fortunate I am. I think I've just been doing this long enough to finally get into a good crowd of folks. Thank you all for your interest and kind words.

My, how Beaumont has changed since I was there. (apparently, 1989 is a long time ago in Southern California terms) Hemet next? :)

True Willie has a gig at the Hemet Theater on Sept. 9 but I'm going to miss it. I have played in that town but it's been a while. I used to do a lot if Inland Empire gigs but now I'm more Orange County based due to the bands I'm working in. I know some people like to look down their nose at the IE but I like it, lots of good folks here. :)

.... searching memory ... is the Hemet Theater where they hold the Ramona Paegent? Nice venue. Among my memories of Hemet is that is where my car horn gave its last. I had to replace it ....

Now here is a factual story from Hemet that has nothing to do with music but everything to do with what Hemet is (was?). The editor of the Hemet newspaper (I knew the gentleman when he was an executive editor with Hearst) was prone to fits of anger and rage. One day he became so angry he left the paper for a walk to cool off. The police picked him up - he did not think to take his wallet - because he matched the description of a missing dementia patient.

The commonly heard nickname for Beaumont in that time was not complimentary.

  18. Great posts again Cliff. Thanks! Off topic questions, where were your FOH speakers, I didn't see them in the pics and do you use any effects for your bass or just straight into the GK head? And do you just run DI signal to the mixer from the back of your amp?

  19. Let me know if you ever do Menifee. We helped get the community off the ground with donation of land for the courthouse and parks and are still trying to liquidate our remaining holdings. They have a very thoughtful approach to building the infrastructure there, but it takes sooooooo long to get things done.

There's a Little Feat song about being 55+ as I recall. It may or may not be accurate. I ain't telling. Pretty great gig either way.
