Hey there. I've got a Fulltone Bassdrive and was wondering if the MOSFET versino is any more versatile than the earlier one. What are the main differences? Thanks, Chris
I recently traded out my original Bass-Drive with the most current Mosfet version. The Mosfet is a lot more versatile, albeit in subtle increments. (does that make sense?) I think the new Bass-Drive has a lot better low-end in Mosfet mode and sounds a lot smoother with less harsh high-frequencies. Having the "flat-mids" option also gives you different response than the "vintage" (original) mode. It's a little less TS-9 sounding in flat mids mode. I also think that the boost channel is more usable on the Mosfet version. Unless you're in comp-cut mode, the boost volume matches up better than the original pedal - adding gain more than raw volume. Factor in that I can still dial in all of my old sounds from the original Bass-Drive and I have to conclude that the new pedal is superior. For me, the Mosfet update has made the Bass-Drive a much more useful pedal. The differences are subtle, but for me, significant enough to warrant the upgrade.
I've come to the conclusion I don't really like this pedal much outside of the CompCut mode. I have the MOSFET version and don't find either that or the "vintage" mode are able to cut and punch as well as the CompCut, so for my purposes, the old one would be fine.
