Fender, Musicman, G&L, Sadowsky, Rickenbacker- all good/great basses but the brand names themselves (sure it's usually the creator's last name), are well....rather boring. I know it doesn't matter one bit but c'mon - "Modulus", "Zon" "Bacchus".....now those are some truly cool bass names! Odd names too (usually from Asian-made basses) make for a good conversation or to elicit a laugh. Sometimes, things don't translate quite as well when sold in a foreign market. Tokai "Hard Puncher". hee hee….. I guess I'm lucky I get to say "I rock out with a Mr. Potato Bass". Really, the brand is "Mr. Potato" and it's proudly printed on the front of the bass itself. What are some of the better or stranger brand or model names out there?
too bad the photo's not in focus so i can read the name that's the point of the thread. i do like the jaguar bottom master you mentioned zon, isn't zon the builder's last name?
"Mr. Potato" Perfect that the picture is out of focus, since the internet meme joke for a terrible photo is that it was taken by a potato (rather than a camera).
Some people find Chowny humorous. I guess they see Clowny. My friend wouldn't believe that Dingwall was an actual name. I couldn't see Fender Rascal without thinking about the Rascal Mobility Scooter...and also wondering if the next bass was going to be called the Fender Scamp or Scoundrel. When it comes to good names, can't get much better than Thundrrgun.
Ovation had several odd names: Typhoon; Hurricane; Magnum; Deacon; Breadwinner, etc: Nice designs and construction actually.
I can’t help but laugh a little whenever Roscoe basses are mentioned. I’ve no doubt at all that they’re spectacular basses, but all they make me think of is Roscoe P. Coltrane from the old Dukes of Hazzard show. In retrospect he was probably the best part of that show.
I have a DePinto Belvedere Standard in black and it's Awesome. I think the name Belvedere is funny and anachronistic, more a name for a butler or little lord DiPinto Electric Guitars & Basses Belvedere Standard Bass
