Does anyone ever have the following problem. Someone plays a guitar part for you to throw a bassline too or you come up with your own and you end up playing the same damn patterns over and over all the time. I am having problems breaking out of minor scale runs from the 1 to the 2 to the b3 to the octave, etc.

Try learning a few new songs that you wouldn't normally want to play, they'll generally open you up to some new ways of looking at the bass line. I remember I had this gigantic creative block for the longest time, and for some reason I decided to learn the head to Jaco's solo on Donna Lee. It totally opened up my playing, and made me refine my technique just to play the damn thing at 210 bpm.
