C.A.F. theres a pretty good thunderstorm going, so thought it would be a good time to work on this. Really, its bass lines like this that first attracted me to the instrument in the first place..It was only later that I got into the more melodic type playing. and yeah, I know they didn't have a bass player.
Manzaric wrote that bass line using his key board. Pretty easy to get it right on keys. Kinda tough to play it right on a bass.
That's a very common misconception. They used some of the best session bassists in the studio. There's bass guitar on most of their songs. And yes, it's the great Jerry Scheff on "Riders On The Storm".
That is true. I heard Scheff was then invited to become a member of the band, but then it all ended. He didn't mention the offer of band membership in his autobiography. https://www.amazon.com/Way-Down-Playing-Autobiography-Scheff/dp/161713032X Scheff has given us some really nice basslines. I especially like his contribution to Along Comes Mary by The Association. That was his big break, professionally, in the 1960s.
Doug Lubahn, who played on the first few records, was also invited to join but declined since he already played in another band.
