I'm really tired (not stoned, tired) right now and I have half assembled an idea for a thread. In my experience, non bassists favorite basslines tend to be really simple, but with great tone... this is just in my experience. Here's an example, you know the breakdown to "twilight zone" by golden earring? My roomate heard that and was like, "Wow, that sounds tricky, can you play that Matt?" 1 minute and 3 notes later, I'm playing it.

Now this isn't such a bad thing, I'm thinking these are the basslines that we classify as simple but good, but regardless... topic discussion...

What are some basslines that non bassist think are great/complicated basslines?

    ... I'm tired.

I'd guess a lot of sublime stuff.

The thing though, is whether they know what is actually the bass playing or not. I'm talking non-musicians here, not just non-bassists. Sometimes it's brutally obvious, sometimes not.

For Reference: Ice Ice Baby's bassline is sampled off of "Under Pressure" by Queen and David Bowie.

...but not exactly the same. Who can spot the difference?

I would say "Another One Bites The Dust", "Sunshine Of Your Love", and "Walking On The Moon" are all very recognizable/well liked by non-bassists.
