Battery powered practice amp?

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by sleestak, Apr 5, 2005.

  1. I'm thinking of getting a little battery powered amp I can sit on the couch with and practice on. Do they make little bass amps that run on batteries?

    Hey George,

Try doing a search, you'll find all sorts of stuff.

There are a few battery amps around such as the Pignose (they do a specific 30w bass amp) and the Crate Taxi. I'm not sure what any of them are like.

Phil Jones have just released a very high quality 'bass briefcase' that can run off batteries - it was reviewed in Bass Player a month or so ago, but I think that the list price was $400 - 600, so this may not be what you want.

Funnily enough I've been looking at getting something similar to play with a local acoustic group who play down the local pub - I don't want to get an acoustic bass as they don't seem loud enough and so a battery amp seems like the answer, but I haven't really seen anything that is suitable.

The Briefcase would, indeed, be perfect for you needs, though it might exceed your price (or maybe not).

The Crate Taxi series guitar cabs might do the trick for you.
