I posted a real quick Dark Star sample. It suffers a lot in the transfer to mp3 but you can hear OK. I think the bass sounds a little better in the low-fi mp3 Lo-Fithan the artificially trebly hi-fi mp3 Hi-FiI'll try and get a better sample soon.

    please post other sample soon!!!

  4. That's a great sound.. it's the way an electric bass should sound. Not tinny or twangy, but dark brown, grunt and power.

It's making me want to get a Warmoth body routed for a DS and build up.

Oh good lord, GAS. That defines an awesome tone, not in your face agression just a warm, rich, deep purr. Drool. Might have to give Warmoth a call myself :D.

Actually Butch built this bass for me. I'm just giving credit where credit is due. He is an AllParts dealer BTW. So, before you go to Warmoth give him a call. The bass in question.

You just blowed the fuse in my wow-factor meter

What strings do you have on this bass? flats, worn for at least 25 years, right?

I have a set of well worn TI SuperAlloys on this one right now. But, the pickup has a vintage kinda vibe to it. Thats the bass into my Avalon U5, into a cheap Behringer mini type board, into a Sony MiniDisc. No EQ other than the Avalon, which has presets only.
It gets crappy dumping through my cheap ass sound card and doing the mp3 conversion. I can assure you it sounds much better before all the conversions. All that swirly phasey crap is not in the original. I'll get my ADAT up and running soon and redo the whole thing cleanly.

I knew what you meant. :) Just thought I would fill in some detail. I use my 55-94 for a more modern funk tone. Check my site, I have several free downloads from NOLA (New Orleans, La.). Thanks guys.

    Zombie thread wants braaaaains. BRAAAAINNS!

I can't believe the sound samples are still being hosted.

    That's an awesome P, Chef.

I have all kinds of bad ideas for basses to build with Dark Stars... has anyone heard what the WHAT is up with Mr. Hammond? He's been AWOL for a while now.

Is he going the mass-produced route, or folding up his tent and going home?

All I've heard about Fred is "tried to reach him, no results."

I hope he's well, and winding pickups somewhere....

  17. I have just now forsaken my beautiful wife and son for this P bass.... :help:
