BCRich Eagle Rescue

  1. A guitarist friend decided he’s never going to get around to this project, so it’s up to me:

Someone went a little overboard when stripping off that Robin’s Egg blue paint!

I am surprised at how light it is. The body/neck is 5lbs 14oz.

The serial number is long gone, but we think it’s an 82-84. Any help here would be appreciated!

  3. Gotta do some research. Are these Dimarzios?

I’ve always loved the older BC Rich stuff. I assume this is an older one anyway...

What is your game plan for it? Can’t wait to see it come back to life!

  5. The first order of business will be to find a socket to loosen the truss rod nut. I think I may have to grind a socket down:

  6. Smooth it out, and probably do a Tung Oil finish. I’m going to put the electronics back to stock if I can. I’m not a fan of gold anyway, so it will probably get Hipshot Ultralights. I’ll have to see about the bridge. I have a Badass 1 on the Tbird I built. I might use that bridge and put a 2 piece bridge on the Tbird.

  7. Excellent! The Schaller M4S lightweight tuners are a direct drop-in. At least they were on my '76, and your tuners look the same.

Yes, stock these came with Dimarzio's. You can still get a repro wiring harness from the man himself:

Full Vintage BC Rich Eagle Bass Electronic Circuit, pre-wired with dropped volume control.

A Badass I would also be period accurate (bonus points if matched with the "S" shaped wavy Grover tuners), though it seems common to find them with the unbranded bridge/tuners as well.

Never owned one myself, just stalked enough Reverb and TB classifieds ads to have accumulated some useless knowledge.

Is this bass owned by a dude in Lethbridge?

  12. Really needs some more finish work, but congrats those were great basses.
I'm guessing it was black at one point.
And yeah early 80's would be the right time frame.

    So get sanding!

I thought the older models the serials were stamped in, so something should be left, where as the later models they were just painted on.

@Engle there appears to be lots of sealer still on the body, so plenty of sanding will probably be in order.

    Cool bass!

DUDE! This is stoopid cool! Why don't my guitar player friends ever give me vintage BC Rich basses?
Wait, I know the answer, nevermind ;)
    It's beautiful....CONGRATS!

The rotary switch for the preamp is broken/"FUBAR'd"...but it appears to be common type that should be easy to replace.

  20. No it was that blue colour you can see in the PU cavities. My buddy remembers it before the original owner stripped it.
