well, i'm here again with my newest project. i did not have any intentions on building a new bass anytime soon, until i stumbled on to some maple planks at my local Home Depot. i found, for quite cheap, some good wood. i went back a few days later to get more, and i found a gem! i found a 12' piece (3.5" x .75" x 12') of curly maple! this was clearly a mistake and that wood didn't belong in the store. it was the only piece like it. it's all mine, and it's a beauty. the specs: 5 string 34" scale unlined fretless maple neck, body, and fingerboard. set neck single EMG HZ soapbar pickup black hardware Hipshot D-Tuner i went with a slightly different body shape this time. i'm doing a double cutaway and i offset the back of the body more so it's similar to a Jazz Bass.
Man...The Home Depot near me doesn't carry anything but pine, red oak, and poplar. I like your body design.
chuggin' right along...... i'm going to put more effort into carving on this bass. i applied some oil to see what the grain will end up looking like.....WOW!!!!! Thank you Home Depot!!
Looking really nice. I'm completely jealous that your HD has that kind of wood supply. Are you going to hand carve the entire roundover?
thank you!! as far as the carving is concerned, i hit the whole outer perimeter of the front and back with a round over bit to take some of the meat off. then i'm going to do the rest by hand. i'm very pleased with the results so far.
got the body about 75% done. i applied some tung oil to see just how the grain will look when its finishing time.
Not a bad looking bass...of course there's lots of work to be done. But it's going to look great I can tell. I've had a bass built for me before..and kudos to you sir, on your hard work!
