Correct me if I'm wrong but that body shape was altered from the original right? Looking good :)

Yes. It was a modified ThunderBee. Less drastic angle in the lower bout, modified lower horn, different headstock (more elegant)..plus other minor touches here and there. It's turning out great...should be a real stunner once the finish is on....

The fingerboard is beautiful! It's like a river of thick creamy chocolate i want to dive right into!
  8. Hey, what's the top wood on that sweet piece of bass?

That's burled walnut. Says so right in the link to the specs.

Can't wait to see this bass finished!

    That is one beautiful fingerboard!
The rest of it ain't bad either :)
  14. Call me crazy, but I'm not a big fan of that body style. The massive horn on the top looks so out of place. But the huge cutaway is cool, makes for easy access to all frets. I bet it's gonna sound and play like a dream, but I can't get past that huge top piece. I still wanna see it when it's finished though!

    Ok, you're crazy.

J/K. Seriously though, I haven't been a fan of the singlecuts with a huge top horn, and IMHO this one is almost as sleek as my Marchlewski's top horn (while still retaining his more signature shapes). Some other luthiers make the top horn HUGE, almost like a whale rising out of the water. I think Fred has got his correctly proportioned (at least from what I see from the pics of various models). Aesthetically, I think the new shape and headstock flows very nicely.

As far as the lower bout, I wanted something that could seat well, and have good lap balance without a strap, so it looks like that will happen....overall a great design and execution by Fred.

Yup, I knew that I'd like it much more once it was carved. I'm glad that I withheld judgement. That's looking great!
