I have been playing bass for about 3 years. I didn't have leasons someone told me where the major notes where and I started from there. I played in church and southern gosbil so I didn't really need to "know" that much. I took guitar lessons for 2-1/2 yrs about 15 yrs ago, took drum lessons for 1-1/2yrs about 12yrs ago and played drums in high school band. I have been playing bass for the youth group at church for the past several months and am having trouble doing any kind of "runs" or fills to any of the songs,(Third Day, Sonic Flood, ect). There is noone around close enough to take lessons from. But I need to learn how to play. Shat do I need to do first? Learn scales, or what? Thanks for any help.

    how old are you?

    sorry for the personal question

u say u learnt a bit of guitar, do you remember any of it?

if not, a good place to start is scales and leading tones.

leading tones are notes that take you from one note to another. learn the scales and should just fall into place (major, minor, pentononic etc)

There's more to it than that, but...you gotta start somewhere

I am going to be 26 in May. I didn't learn scales on the guitar, all I learned was how to read notes and play them. I can still read some notes on the guitar if I play around a little. I can read shaped notes.
