Before I try out a old AMP- can it blow my preamp?

I have an old Peavey 800 watt amp. I bought it used and have no idea if it works 100%. I want to know if its safe to fire it up with my preamp and a guitar(it powers on and runs quietly hooked straight into a speaker cabinet).I dont want to damage my preamp. Can a bad amp send stuff back up into your preamp and blow the preamp?

Not unless you plug your preamp into the output of the power amp. I don't think there's much danger in hooking it up.

You're actually doing far more potential harm to your pre-amp by plugging it into a speaker than you're ever likely to do by connecting it to the input of the Peavey.

    Merry Christmas! :hyper:
