Can anyone suggest a good beginner fretless? I would like to learn but I dont want to dump a ton of money into it immediately. Four or five strings are both good.

Im trying to stay in the $400 or under range.

You can pick up an MIM Jazz fretless for less than that.

I might be selling my two MIM Jazz's soon (one is a green fretted and one is a black fretless). Each would be priced below your budget.

Check out SX's fretless options. They're inexpensive and sound pretty good.

  5. Squier VM Fretless J Bass....nuff said.

  6. I recently tried a Fender Squire Jazz that was done like a poor man's Jaco bass. It had a fretless fingerboard with the fretlines filled in. The board itsef looked like ebony but I think it was some sort of composite.

I was surprised at how good it felt. And I think it was around $200. Plus you have the fret lines to guide you.

  7. Squier VM fretless.....by far....and itll give you some extra greenbacks
