    HELP!

I have the Behringer Power Pack 1 which I purchased a few months back but havnt used that much (not had a chance to jam properly much). I seem to have a problem with the set up. When I play my bass through it, it easily distorts (sounds crap and the speakers kind of rattle). It does this when I play certain notes on my bass. I dont have the settings all turned up either for this to happen. If I use the 'Ultra bass' button (adds an octave lower to the sound)the cab can hardly handle it on a lower setting never mind turned up full!
Can anyone tell me whats happening here - is the cab faulty / broken? It makes it unpleasent to play through; as much as I love metal and agressive music I cant stand the set-up sounding like this - plus it is only on certain notes therefore just sounds stupid when jamming.
Please help, Im the next Jason Newstead.

  2. Make sure its the speakers, sometimes in a house theres lots of things rattling in sympathetic vibration. If you're boosting certain freqs a lot (especially lows) that can happen, the speakers fart out on certain notes and not others. If they keep farting, eventually there will be damage from overexcursion and they will sound like that all the time.

Most people try to get a really bassy sound by themselves, which takes a lot of power and speaker to reproduce cleanly. That sound in a band gets swallowed, so they turn up to compensate, causing more problems. Better to get a more midrangey sound, it cuts through the mix much better, sounds just as bassy with a band as the sound they were looking to get by themselves.

If you have another cab/amp, or can borrow one, try combinations to see if its the cab or the amp, but sounds likely its the cab. If you haven't pushed it hard enough to do damage, new eq could fix the problem.

Hard to say what's going on without hearing it. It really shouldn't be sounding like that by yourself, hard to believe its that loud. A 300W amp with a 410 like that would not get screaming loud in a band setting, that wouldn't be surprising if you blew it then without realizing it. But you hearing the rattle at relatively low volumes makes me think that the speaker got blown when you were playing with a loud band, and now that you can hear it well, you can tell. Probably didn't notice while you were playing with the band.

Yeah I think its a speaker thats knackard - it seems to be the top left one that's 'farting' out the crap sound rather than the others. I cant understand it though - the amp has all these extra low functions like 'deep' and 'ultrabass' which is very low, but i cant understand why they dont warn you that you can blow it so easily considering they sell the power pack as a unit.
If ive blown a speaker, or partly ruined it, can i get it fixed - what kind of cost would that be or do you reakon the guarentee would cover it?
Last time i jammed with people i turned up and on some settings the sound would disapear like it was too much for the cab and the come back but crackly - do you think its linked with the problem im having now?
god damn, im gonna stick with my uke, its simple and problem free.....
