Discussion in 'Jazz Technique [DB]' started by myrick, Dec 4, 2002.

  1. curious what ploys TB DBers use to avoid damage.

    don't wear 'em ?
turn 'em to the side ?
    bass bib ?
hold the bass so they aren't at risk ?

All of those work. You can also tuck a wash cloth into your pants so that it hangs over the buckle. You end up having to answer a bunch of questions about your religion when you do this in New York. I just don't wear a belt, and if a jacket has those big, nasty metal buttons I empoy the ol' Swiss Army Knife solution to the jacket...

I put bibs on my basses. If I sit in on a bass without one, I ALWAYS slide my belt buckle to my right side.

You shouldn't be dressing like Michael Jackson in the first place.
  5. ...yes, but I bet Ray doesn't dangle his basses from the 4th floor balcony...

    - Wil (who always slides his belt-buckle to the right... to the right... to the right...)

Here's how I get around it:

I put my big, fat gut in the way.
Hey, I haven't seen my belt buckle since 1988. :D

I always tuck a washclothe into my pants before a show.
Oh you mean your supposed to put it on the buckle.:D
  8. I've got the strata bass bib, the three sided one from hammond ashley. It fit's perfectly on my 7/8s bass, plus it's got a pocket to hold my pencil and tuning fork. Works great for drying sweaty hands too. :bassist:
  9. I wear untucked polo shirts to cover the buckle.

Belt Buckles are not in the way if you don't tuck in your shirt.

  11. I really dont have a problem with a belt buckle. My deal is I play in a Praise Team at Church with my EB. I play the Bass up pretty high and have found that Tie Tacs can be killer on Bass. I dont wear them anymore...:meh:
  12. Yeah, because those people who put on those coke-and-high-class-hookers parties I know all the DB guys are playing really love to see the band with their shirts untucked.

  13. How can I get one of those gigs? :D
  14. Wall Street contacts are always good.

I always take my belt off before the gig and put it back on after. Sometimes, I take it off in front of the audience. I've gotten some odd looks.
  18. I use a bass bib as well as move my belt buckle, works great!
  19. I'm a buckle slide kind of guy.
