Whenever I read a post about these, I always said to myself, "New bass euphoria." After playing one for a while, I realize that the reviews of these things are understatements! Not only do they have balls, but they are VERY light in weight. I'm getting a Vortex 5, and will hopefully add a 4 later on. These things rock!
Coem on Chuck, I'm sure you have much more Namm pics man!!! Please share!! Is it this vintage vortex you're getting? Peace, JP
Yeah! I'm glad to see another Benavente onwner! JP, check out the Benavente site....James has updated the pics from NAMM. I saw a pic of Brad Johnson checking out the 7 strings! http://www.benaventeguitars.com/main.htm
Hehe, I was checking the pics on Chris's site right now!! Great pics, thanks for uploading them so fast James!! Peace, JP
I was up till 3:30am getting them uploaded! (let me know is you see any errors ) WoodChuck: you're buddies with Za? I was showing the Mrs's the pictures when I got up today and she said "Is that Ike? He was in my homeroom in High School... He was always such a nice guy." small friggin world! How about some specs on what you're getting? I'm looking at a Vintage Vortex 5 in the next few months too
I'm getting the cream colored one and hopefully the light blue 4 as well. I thought that I was only one that called him Ike! I met him about 6 years ago, and he took me under his wing as a bassist. He has never given me formal lessons, but I can call him at ANYTIME, and he'll have me come over so that he can show me how to get over the problem I'm having when I hit a wall in my playing.
That Cream one is sharp! The blue is a little too light for me... I'm looking to go Lake Placid Blue with mine. Tell him Amy Watson from Manchester says Hello (she doesn't think he'll remember her.. she was/is very intraverted and quiet). If he's still got family up this way and visits tell him to look us up. We're still in the area.
Those pix and ones from the site are making me drool.... Wish I went too. Woodchuck, Apache was a blast. Last time I was there it was called the Ying Yiang... That vintage vortex is totally up my alley, almost looks a little like my Warrior... umm almost. How does it sound/feel? Are those knobs a little intrusive or right on the money?
hey, awesome bass, 'chuck! i'm really digging those vortex basses. i'm hoping to get down to chris' shop before i leave washington state next year. i'm not sure i would go for a vintage, but they look really sweet.
Why didn't anyone tell me I was going bald!! That 7 string was to die for!! I am really thinking of having one made. The fretless was the best I have ever played. Really nice.
I just got back from NAMM (thanks Chris and Brian)with my SC5. Brian changed the pickups from Aero to the new J S Tech pickups. They have a TON of booty...lots of bottom end and I really love the tone! Its the SC5 that Jon Smith (Ken's son) is playing in the Benavete pics. Here is an old pic. BTW... Chris and Brian are great guys and it was nice meeting them both. Dan
WOW, cool thread We had a great time, not sure who took that picture.....none of me were to get out Everybody was great and Chris and I had the best show we have ever had. Thanks to everyone for coming out and jamming and all the wonderful comments made from everyone. I've been blown away at the e-mails and calls just today alone in response to the show this weekend. A buddy of mine came by and picked up his Vortex today and did a few tracks of it and my fretless (which no I didn't sell so who won and what was the pot up to ) Visit my site and go to the Benavente page in the forum and click on sound files. Neal Bowen did the tracks. Thanks Brian
Oh my goodness!!! That fretless just kills man!!! Here is the link to the sound file http://www.thelowend.net/gallery/viewtopic.php?t=36
I had a great time meeting and hanging out with Brian and Chris. Finally got a chance to get some hands on with the Benaventes and they are excellent basses.
Hey Brad, you're one BIG man! How many Benaventes are returning to the Low End now that NAMM is done?
