I am interested in how the nv 610 is compared to the ampeg 810 in tone.I have the bergantino ht 310 ,and its tuned kind of flat.Does the nv have that scooped mid like the ampeg ?

  2. Do a search :smug: This has been covered a lot on here.

To answer your question though: No, the NV610 is not lacking in the mids in any way but neither are the Ampeg 810s so I'm not really sure what you're getting at. The NV has a really nice, growly mid range.

I dont consider my NV610 mid-scooped at all. This cabs design naturally rolls of the deep lows/high-highs and really seems to emphasise the whole mid section.

You might prefer the NV215 more. This model goes both deeper and higher, so I'd imagine it would be considered more of a mid-scooped model than the NV610.

You should find lots of NV610 vs Ampeg 8x10 comments in this link:

I don't know where this scooped mid thing comes from with Ampeg. I've played many an Ampeg cab in my day and none of them sound scooped.

I think he/they are just noticing the pronounced low-mids of some Ampegs, and mistakenly using the term "mid-scooped" when comparing to some other brands tendencies to have a much more pronounced medium-mid and upper-level response.

Could be. Never considered it a characteristic of all their cabs, though...just the HLF cabs.

Got no reason to be sorry, bro. People hear things different ways. They're not in-your-face upper mids and highs like an Eden cab, so some might consider that scooped.

My NV610 definitely kicks booty with (like) my SVT's.

I think Im gonna try the NV215 now. I just bought a new NV610 but I really liked the lows the 215 offered at the store. I could not decide so salesdude said take either one if you don't like it bring it back and take the other. So just from what I read here, I took the 610 first, tried it at my funk/disco/r&b gig, w/GBE750. It worked quite nice, I usually use 2 GB Neox 212T cabs with that band. gui**** is always asking for more lows from my side I felt I had plenty with the 610, alot of mids for sure and the Cirrus sounded good when I popped/slapped thru this cab.

I had to try the 610 to hear it live, so to compare Im gonna take it back, get the 215 and try it out this Saturday nite at my gig. I'll have to decide then, which one I'll keep, but I'll know what to expect from the one I keep. :D

  11. I got both the NV610 & NV215 & BOTH KICK BIG TIME!!!!! In comparison to an Ampeg 810-the modern ones the NV610 EATS it alive IMO! I can't say re the old 810's as I aint got one to A/B with. many say the NV610 does the best 'impersonation' of a classic(70's) Ampeg 810 ever!

    Very Punchy cab-NV610

Must be hella nice to have both and your so right about the 610 having punch. Now I've gotta try out the 215 cause I dont know if I need punch as much as I might need a more open, bigger bottom, higer high cab. I hope to know soon which one will work best for me. And I can see why these 2 cabs together would be "all she wrote" cab-wise. Actually Im considering getting both cabs but I gotta choose one of em first til I can do that. Have you tried the NV215 stand alone to speak on it any?

Hitting the Ultra Lo switch on an Ampeg head results in a scooped mid sound. But Ampeg gear is generally known for punchy mids.

I ran SVT rigs back in the day -- I used a coffin cab for awhile, then the fridge. IMO the NV610 sounds better than either.
