Bernard Edwards' amp ?

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by FuNkY_DrUmMeR, Jul 19, 2007.

  1. Hey everyone,

I just wondered what amp my favorite bass player was using, in studio and in live ? I think he uses Trace Elliot amps, but I ain't sure... And I always dreamt to nail his sound character.

    Thanks for your help !

EDIT : I don't know if it can help, but I especially loooove his tone on the Live at the Budokan :help:

I think Bernard was not much of a gear head. He was a case of the sound truly being in his hands.

I'm pretty sure he was using Ampeg SVT with 810.

I don't think it matters, as he was using a stingray with flats from what I remember.....and a pick?

But the ray will get your sound with flats and a bass amp will amplify the sound.

    DI in the studio

Live I've seen pics of him with Ampeg SVT.

  6. I think so yes. Even Nile Rodgers, the guitarist and co-leader of Chic often used DI in studio. DI is of course a curse word for gui****s, but works extremely well in Chic recordings IMO.

I love Bernard. What a cat, what groove.
