I am trading in some bass gear to a local music store and they will give me more for the gear if I "buy" some gear as oppossed to just taking the cash. Of course, I already have cab, amp, cords etc.

If there was one item you would get (besides these) what would it be and why?

AVALON U5, Because of all the churchs I play or places where I go thru the house I love my U5!!!! It has become part of my sound running in front of my eden rig, and I can't imagine gigging, recording without it.

The one thing you need, to be a working bassist - is a car!!

No transport, usually means no gigs!!

I am going to disagree with you here. My gear is super portable:

    clarus head- 5lbs
    wizzy cab -28lbs

both go nicely onto my foldable dolly. Bass goes onto my back with bassbag's shoulder straps.

With this set up I can easily transport myself and the gear using either light rail or bus.

No car required. I am a *certified eco-freak*

    :D

But what if you're playing a gig in the middle of nowhere, with no public transport, that is 50 miles off the main roads - and you have to give the conga player a lift...:meh:

    It's happened to me! :)

What if you need more volume/power...?

For me it would be my Sansamp Bass Driver DI, or my foldable hand truck.

    +1 to what jive1 said.
I like and use both of these units all the time. But since I tote a big chunk of PA and other gear, I'll give the nod to the hand truck.

You mean you get more money back for your gear? So obviously you want to find something that costs as much or less than the extra money you'd get back. How much are we talking?

I like effects so I would say my pedalboard. Every sound that I want can be had with something on it.

Tuner? Music stand? Light for aforementioned music stand? Super-comfy strap? Earplugs? Guitar stand? More strings? Pickups? Fakebooks/Instructional books?

...groupies? (The kind you have to buy are on the corner next to the music store.)

  16. I find my Boss Bass Overdrive pedal to be pretty much essential, other than the obvious things like the amp, guitars, and cables.

Everything SuperDuck said, plus another shout out for the SansAmp bass Driver. It's like a SVT in my gig bag.

  19. She bought me all my basses, & all I have to do is keep the kids alive(actually about an even trade). That or breath mints.
