Besides Valenti and Stambaugh, what are some options regarding custom basses under $2000?

A lot of people in these parts would suggest Carvin/Kiesel. But it's weird, because it seems like they get recommended as an option that a lot of people would personally not choose.

Seems pretty cool. Have you bought one of their basses?

I had my hands on one for a day or two but it had an undisclosed blemish on it from previous owner.

It was really a fantastic sounding and playing bass but I returned it for the blem. (It was not a factory blem but a chip near neck pocket.)

I plan on having Chopper build me one in the very near future. He's great to talk to and I know his work is top notch.

Well that’s good to know. I can’t seem to find a starting price on the website. Would you know by any chance?

You can click the purchase tab and fill out the Spec form and Chopper will get you a quote. I forget how much my quote was.

You can find a lot of builders making personalized basses for under $2k. What exactly are you looking for in a bass? Suggesting Carrigan, for example, isn't going to be helpful if you want a bolt-on.
