Replacing the guts of my Rebop 5-string and really want a super thick and heavy bass sound like in modern porn music (NOT the 70's wa-chicka-wa-chicka kinda porn music).

I'm considering some sort of combination of EMG pickups like the 40P, 40J, 40DC and perhaps Nordstrands...though I'm leaning more towards EMG's since they're more in my price range. Anything else I should look at?

Doesn't look like they have anything that will fit in my bass though. It's a dual humbucker/soapbar pickup configuration - 4"x1.5" dimensions.

EDIT: I just saw they have "other configurations and sizes upon request" but I special-orders always come at a cost and I don't have unlimited funds.

I have a EMG 40DC/40CS combo in my Rebop with an EMG BQC preamp wired for 18v. Big improvement over the HZs/Tonepump combo IMO. Two 40DCs or a 40DC/40P combo would probably be even nastier.

You can always ask. It never hurts to ask ;).

I've had custom shapes (very custom shapes) that were available at a premium, while other sizes and shapes were readily available at no extra charge (even though they were not listed at the site)

I had a Euro 5LX-EX with that combo in it (DC/CS) and it was pretty killer. I think I'm leaning more towards the 40P/40DC though with that preamp.

Does anyone have experience with the 40P/40DC combo?

I also got a message from SGD Lutherie about his pickups...does anyone have any experience with those?

I heard them. I don't like relying on stuff like that though. I just prefer to hear from people how they are in an actual live setting.

40P/40DC are my favorite pickups. Check EMG's website for a list of players who use them.

I would describe them as thick, heavy and warm... like homemade brownies coated with nutella and then microwaved.

Anyway I have some in my older Godin bass.

I didn't start the thread, but some users chimed in with their experiences and even sound clips.
