for some reason ive been listening to a bunch of 60 psychadelia and surf rock type stuff. i got it off this itunes deal. anyway whats the best bass for that kind of music? not to say a bass should designate a style but i know those guys played something other than warwicks, zons, spectors, alembics etc. anyway i was thinking mosrite or vox basses.
Also, think of the hollow-bodies like Guild Starfire, Gibson EB-2. Danelectro shorthorns and longhorns would also do the trick.
Since Precisions and Jazzes are taken, how about a Ric? Surf...very much P bass territory. Others...as others have said, Ps, Js, EB Gibsons, Clear Dan Armstrong (Ampeg) basses, maybe a Hagstrom or two...
well, i am a sucker for all those jaguar shaped basses...a lot of japanese companies made them...zimgar, tiesco del ray to name two...i love those! especially if they are short-scale! Charlie

McCartney painted his bass. And, it wasn't stripped till after the paintjob. But otherwise I agree completely. I've got one myself.
If I remember, the paint ruined the electonics. As it is, the paint had to be scraped off the fretboard for Eric to use the SG again. I love all that "the Fool" artwork. Baker's drum heads, the Sgt. Pepper and MMT inner sleeve, the Apple boutique...
I would say whatever you like......But something quadraphonic wouldn't hurt. Anyone know where to get a good quadraphonic bass? I'll have to put that on my list of things to get eventually, right after wall of sound and azmoth coordinator.
