Looking for something around $80-120. I want a Christopher Wolstelnholme (muse) type of computer-keyboard sound. Of course, I won't get "that" sound for $100, but you got the idea.

  2. If you DIY, you can build practically any distortion pedal for around $50-$60!

I fail building stuff :( It seems to me that there is no decent factory pedal under $180.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "computer keyboard sound" in the context of distortion, but you can get a good "Time Is Running Out" sound out of the Digitech Bass Synth Wah. $90 new, much less used (I grabbed one for $45, I think, a few months ago in the classifieds).

If that's the sound you're looking for, there are also a lot of other synth-y fuzz options out there, including many in your price range.

  5. Way Huge pedals are cheap. Dunlop pedals as well.

Great! I recommend checking that pedal out. I think the TIRO sound is really good, as do a lot of people (although some purists have other ideas). But it's a fun pedal with lots of sounds beyond that.

Try this. EXTREMELY easy to build, the most in depth and easy instructions ever! Pretty much idiot-proof.

I use the Digitech Bass Synth Wah on stage. It sounds great, very heavy synth sound. Couple it with the DanElectro French Toast and you can get some seriously scary stuff.
