I have $500 and I NEED a new amp. I need an amp that can put out quality jaco tone and super deep dub/reggae tone. I have been looking at peavey, carvin, and SWR. I just need enough power to keep up with drums and a guitar. About 150-300 watts is all I need(I think). Let me all know about your Ideas...I am also looking at componants, like seperate preamp, amp, and cabinet systems. I am leaning toward combos for the convience. Also let me know if it is worth it to hold off and save up a couple more $$

Dub requires lotsa power. Let's say 600 watts and go up. It takes a lot to drive those big 18" bins. Bang for buck? Carvin, most likely. Over and out.

Not a big fan of carvin. With $500 you could get a nice used Peavy "combo 115" AND add a 2x10" extention cabinet. Do a search here, there have been tons of positive reviews on this amp and they are readily available.

4. A used Trace Elliot gp7215 with an extension cab. My guess for BOOM.

Look at Ampegs products.SWR is real nice but they're not all that deep sounding to me.Also Eden,Ashdown, etc.Ive been hearing some great stuff about Hughes and Kentner(spelling?)combos.Check out Harleyyy's amp post at FDP.Good luck!

8. Gallien Krueger 700 RB or 400 RB these are not bad for the money...... I don't own either but I played both and I thought they were pretty groovy.....

......if you groove it, they will come.......

I hit E-bay and searched for "bass amp" and here's just a few of what I found. All under $500!

Hartke Combo
http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=484598245

Kustom 250 !!!! http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=486823613

Ampeg ST-42 Colossus
http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=480817411

The Ampeg looks pretty bitchin' and so does the Kustom. I'm not a big Hartke fan but it's prolly worth a look .. Al mp3.com/badart

Here's the one!!!
Acoustic 370 head
http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=485574779 $150 and buy an 18 cab. I run mine thru a 2x15 and it turns brains to mush!!!

I'm not a big fan of Carvin either, but you can get 600 watts pretty cheap from them. A lot of guys like 'em.
