Hi, my bass player is looking for a new bass amp, whats his best option for around £500 thats full of watts. Venues around 100-1000. I suggested a head and cab with a fair stack but iv no idea what to look for in an amp, Id appreciate and recommendation.

Think about getting used stuff. www.bassworld.co.uk has a Gear for Sale forum, and you can pick some real bargains there. www.electromusic.co.uk also sells used stuff. For new stuff, try www.soundslive.co.uk.

£500 gives you a lot of options. You could probably get a Trace Elliott or Peavey stack off ebay for that i.e http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=58719&item=7330187611&rd=1

good deals pop up on ebay all the time, but you usually have to be able to drive there to pick them up.

Alternatively, you can get a Warwick ProFet 3.2 head for £175 from electromusic - they're 300W, and then you'd have plenty left over for a cab or two. Or you could get one of these Ashdown combos http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product~name~Ashdown-Mag-C210-T-300~ID~3071.asp and add an extension cab like this http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product~name~Ashdown-MAG-115-Deep-Cab~ID~1450.asp

I'd really recommend ebay if you're able to collect though. Hope this helps.
