Best bass deals you've seen?

My Alembic Rogue 6. Cost me $2300 but it lists for over $8000. It is 11 years old but has very little wear and it sounds and feels great.

 

All of my current gear have been great deals - hanewinckel costs close to $2000 new - bought it for $500. My AI contra amp costs somewhere around $850 new, bought it for $300. MIM jazz fretless was $80 (plus $50 for the bart pups.)

 

Sounds like you've got the knack for getting some killer prices on cool stuff. But I think that Brad Johnson has got to be the king of great deals. I've followed his methods but it hasn't yielded anything like the deals he's come across.

Yes, Rik's is awesome. They were stealing everybodies business on Aguilar until that got shut down.

 

I got a hell of a deal on Ebay on my Ibanez sr405 5-String fretted i payed $150.00 for it and its brand new not a scratch and plays perfect

I just ordered a Washburn XB-102 bass for $99 from musicians friend as a starter bass.

 

I have a translucent blue Czech Spector 5 that I'll let go for about $800.00. Is this a good deal?

 

Actually the best deal I get is a small music store in the town I live in. That's b/c he'll offer 25% off Musician's friend price, as well as sells you a high quality instrument in your price range (doesn't try to sell you the highest one on the line) and knows the answers to inane stupid questions we all ask as newbies.

I don't order basses online b/c you just can't get that kind of service online.

hmm all my stuff was prety much a good deal my yamaha attitude special retails at £900, i got it used at 5 years old for £150. my ABM500 new £1000, mine new for £350, peavey 4x10 retails at £400ish, mine for £150, and dimarzo willpower ( p style pickup, and a humbucker) retails about £160, mine off ebay for £40

 

my 3 basses :
1. jazzbass 50th ann. got it for 700$ new with hard shell case included.
(price list 1400$) cause the salesman was a father of a friend of mine.
2. my pedulla pentabuzz got it for 2299$ new.
(price list $3,595)
3. the biggest deal i've got a 5 string argentinian made (a warwick look a like) with a killer B and great sound with a hard shell (TKL) case for 180$ !!

 

When walking out of my house with a bass one evening in 1993, the old woman next door said" You play guitar?" I said "I play bass". She said she had just sold her husbands bass last week. I had to ask what kind was it. She said it was old. About 30 years old (1963?). Her husband used to pay in the grand ole opry so she had bought him a fender. He used it for about 3 months then retired it to the closet for 29 yrs. +. How much did you get for it I asked. She said "I feel guilty we only paid $150.00 for it but the young man who bought it was very happy to pay $75.00 for it. I still cry when I think of this. That's Life.

 

Although I haven't gotten any phenomenal deals on basses, I once got a legal, working car in exchange for a hit of acid. Does that count?

In '83 I got my all original down to the strings '66 Jazz from a country guit**r player for $350 (he wouldn't dicker on price). Case, strap, all there. I shoulda' bought the black Les Paul he had, it had a built in synthesized organ, but he wanted $500.

 

My Ibanez SB900. Originally $995, got it on ebay for $225 w/ s&h and a nice gig bag.

 

I bought my guitar for 25 bucks. the homemade preamp/distortion junk I made and stuck in it costed about the same....so it's a 50 dollar guitar with built in distortion. Slap some new strings on it, bit of a setup, and it's as good as anything 4 or more times the price.

 

I bought my Hamer CH12 for $299 new, closeout at Guitar Center in Dallas. List is $1299, and the cheapest I have seen a new one is $649, and I have seen several used ones go on Ebay for $350 and up.
