    SX.

You may also be able to find a set of pickups to fit under 200 too...who knows.

+1 on SX. Also, some of the cheaper Ibanez or Dean basses.

  4. i saw a turser double cutaway hollowbody for like 210 on music123 i think i should just save tho because i really want one of those spiffy g&l L-200's

Personally I would look for a used Fender MIM jazz or p bass or a Yamaha BB series bass.

I forgot about Turser, and I own one! I think they're very nice instruments, but once you consider the price, they become excellent. I have a black Hofner copy and I love it.

I have found that my favorite bass at the $200 mark would be the Dean Playmate. It has a good neck and a workable sound. Nothing fancy but it gets the job done.

  8. watch evilbay for a used one?

  9. +1 again on SX

you might be able to score a nice older yamaha bb series bass for that much. I got my bb1000s for 300 dollars with a case and a fresh set of strings. Some time spent checking out the local shops and ads is time well spent, especially if you have no specific need for that cash. It's easier to find a cool bass for 200 thatn to find, say, a 5 string with a 35' scale in a black finish with an unfinished neck and rosewood board.....if you catch my drift. :smu

Don't know how much of a hurry you're in, but every so often a "closeout" special seems to come around on the Yamahas. They blew out the RBX 774/775's for barely over $200 about 3 years ago, and much mre recently they dumped the BB404's for $199.

It seems that whenever Yamaha discontinues a model, some screamin' deals can be had....

  14. Peavey BXP millenium series, wicked basses for a starting player or someone looking for a cheapie.

See if anyone will sell you one of those Peavey USA Millennium STDs that Musicians Friend just blew out - Got mine for $279 with hard shell case, but it is not going anywhere.

I was looking hard at the Epiphone SG's.. from what I hear, the epiphones still perform quite well, but I've never played an epiphone sg. Anyone?

I got $200 for Christmas last year and bought an SX Jazz 5 string for a backup for about $150.It became my gigging bass and sounds real good in the mix.For a new bass the SX's get my vote.Used I'd also look at Yamahas or MIM Fenders.
