Best basses to get for under $250? Aside from the obvious Squier VMs :P

If anyone could actually find a natural finish jazz squier for $250 or less ill get it, but never seems to happen.

Really? Those natural 70s VMs sold for $299 new, at least originally. I feel like I see them on the local CL for $200 all the time (or you should be able to offer $200 on one).

Apart from that - Yamaha? I think they added a budget model to the TRBX line, a TRBX170 or 174 or something. I think it was under $200.

I've had an offer up and they never pop up and I can't post in classifieds. All I see are Squire Affinities and weird knockoff brands. Never tried a Yamaha. Can I get a fairly affordable J or PJ at my price point?

Guitar Center sometimes sells the Sterling Musicman SUB bass for $249 new when they have sales.

Great sounding and playing basses for the price.

I see mexi fenders going for 250-350 so a squier should be easy to find at that price.

    Guitar Center Used, online.
Great return policy. Can have shipped to home or local store and return to local store if it doesn't work for you.

I agree, Ibanez Talman TMB100 sells for $199 brand new. These are terrific basses, I would take them over any Squier Affinity or VM.
Used, you can probably check your local Craigslist, you might get lucky- I bought both on separate occasions a MIM Jazz and MIM P Bass for $200.

Received a gift from Sire* (see sig)
The Sire M3 is a great deal but it's now just out of the high end of your range. So I'll second the Ibby Talman suggestion (don't have one, been GASsing though).

I'm GASsing for a Sire but fat chance of seeing one used and sub $200. Wife wouldn't like me too much if I bought one right now. :)

Good idea! They just never have pictures of the back so I can see wood grain and it usually ends up being around 300$. My budget will either lower to like $150 or raise to like $1,000, but we'll see.

Look for a pre-owned Yamaha BB – one of the best P/J-style instruments at any price.

I will second the Peavey. I have an 84 foundation that I picked up for $150. One of my favorite basses to play.
