In your opinion what's the best head or power amp/preamp for the El Whappo? I know this is all personal preference but I'd like to see what people are doing with it. So, have at it.

A friend of mine uses a mesa m2000 with that cab. Sounds loud and good.

If it's a head, then I would go with the iAMP 800, or perhaps a Walter Woods Ultra High Power. The El Whappo deserves power! Therefore, my stronger recommendation would be to check out the preamps at Basstasters.com, pick the one you like best, pair it up with the biggest QSC PLX series amp you can find, and go at it! :bassist:

I use both my iAMP 800 and my rack rig (Eden Navigator=>QSC PLX 3002) with my Whappo, Jr., and both work well (though I prefer the extra headroom - 3,000w versus 800w - with the rack rig).

  4. Crown K2!!!!!!!!! With a fat tubey preamp like the Burriss or Kern or Read. The Whappo/Whappo Jr. really blooms sounds best with tubes!

I've tried the following heads with an El Whappo:
    Merlin: Mark Wrights personal head.
    GK 800RB (I think).
Hughes & Kettner something or other
    Raven Labs USIP/Stewart 1.2

They all sounded fantastic. My preference would go the the Merlin or USIP/1.2 combination.

So, in short, its all good.

I wouldn't have, if he'd have said "complement."
