Hey, what would you say were the best debut albums ever? I would say
Jimi Hendrix - are you experienced
    Bob Dylan - Bob Dylan
    JJ Cale - naturally
    SRV - Teaxas flood

I'll keep it short for just now. Any suggestions?

    - Boston
    - Blizzard Of Ozz
    - Toto
    - Van Halen
    - Led Zeppelin (great debut although IMO, those guys really unleashed their potential for the first time on "Led Zeppelin II")

Suck on this came before it, but I considered that as an early release promo type ep. Frizzle fry was their first lp.

There was a time when I started picking up various band's debut albums...a lot of times, a band is at their 'best' with their debut. Also, I thought it cool to hear the seedlings of what was to come later (example: Yes).
  15. etoncrow

etoncrow (aka Greg Harman, the curmudgeon with a conundrum)

"The Allman Bros. Band" - The Allman Bros.
    "Big Pink" - The Band
"Mr Tambourine Man" - The Byrds
    "Jackson Browne" - Jackson Browne
  16. Good call

Also a great record. Not the first. The self titled debut could well be on this list though.

I usually appreciate artists after they've developed their craft as professionals more, I tend to think many debut albums are weaker efforts. That said, here are some of my favorite "debut" albums:

    Joe Jackson: Look Sharp!
DEVO: Q: Are We Not Men; A: We Are DEVO
    Marshall Crenshaw
    Barenaked Ladies: Gordon
Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool
    Jaco Pastorius
    The Police: Outlandos d' Amour
    Van Halen
