Any unique advantages/disavantages of a thru neck vs bolt on neck for fretless bass? Does a thru neck have potentially more mwah, everything else being equal of course?

IMO, the setup, quality of construction and your technique are the most important factors on a fretless. The most expressive fretless I've played is a bolt-on (Zon Lightwave). I played a Fender Jaco Jazz relic and a Roscoe a couple of weeks ago that were amazing and were, of course, bolt-ons. I also played a Pedula Pentabuzz that was excellent that was neck thru.

Neck-thru's TEND to have longer sustain, whereas bolt-on's TEND to cut through better.
