Here we go, folks! We're voting for best frontman, frontwoman or solo artist in rock (in any form... rock, pop, metal, punk, thrash, speed, death, prog, r&b, soul)... past or present!

We're talking the best frontman/frontwoman who was IN a band (ex. Freddie Mercury, Mick Jagger, Robert Plant)... OR the best solo artist who plays WITH a band (ex. James Brown, Prince, Elton John). You're voting on the artist who collectively has the power to move an audience, sell records that last over time, get YouTube hits and simply give a performance you've never forgotten! Seek out my original post for more criteria on this poll.

The maximum number of choices in a poll on TalkBass is 20... so I've compiled the top 20 candidates based on YOUR preliminary suggestions.

So if your vote from the past week didn't make the final poll, don't whine about it -- it was merely due to there not being enough response for them. Yes, there was some true rock royalty who received few or zero votes. James Hetfield and Scott Weiland -- sitting on the sidelines (which is NUTS!) Mr. Hendrix -- not enough love here... better luck next time. Even my own honorable mention of Tina Turner didn't make the final cut! Write-in votes will do absolutely nothing to affect the outcome... but if it makes you feel better, knock yourselves out. :smug:

And as an extra-added ingredient of fun -- each of you gets THREE votes! This list is too fantastic to only allow you one swing at the plate. So look over the list throughly and make your votes count! Have fun!!!

Unfortunately, no. I brought Tina into the conversation. There were one or two other ladies mentioned... but they were one-offs.

Not too surprising, given the highly skewed demographics of TB users. Yel_wink.

I know it won't affect the outcome, but my world would be considerably poorer without Otis Redding, Rod Stewart, Sam Cooke, Paul McCartney, Jackie Wilson, Steve Marriott, Joe Strummer, Buddy Holly & Smokey Robinson.

I don't believe in best-of poles. (sic)I'd go for Freddy Mercury on points, Micheal Gira, PJ Harvey, Liz Frasier and Kristen Hersh so Freddy is the default.

  20. Bruce Springsteen - the only one that I’ve actually seen perform, great band leader, high energy shows that go ~3 hours, and has the whole stadium at full attention.

Michael Jackson - I’ve only seen videos, but I’ve never seen any other performer have audiences respond like he did.

Mick Jagger - Again, I’ve only seen videos, but super high energy, and the dude’s 75 and still rocking!

Lots of great choices on the list, it was difficult to choose three.
