Best head for 4x10 cab

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by BlackburstJBP, Oct 10, 2005.

  1. What do you guys and girls feel would be the best choise to power up an ampeg PR-410HLF cab? Rated 1200 watt max and 600 RMS @ 4 ohm.I was thinking of the ampeg SVT pro 4 or maybe a G-K 1001RB .I,m thinking of tonal differences more so than power an watts.I like a good deep sound with punch.I play weddings so the music is mixed from country to rock to oldies and OH YES POLKA,S Thanks for any input,I hate beating this subject to death.

You can find 'em NOS here and there. I'm going to do a write-up on mine as soon as I can find the time.

Great amp, great tone, lots more power than its 280 watts would suggest.

With Ampeg cabs I dont like Ampeg heads. I'd consider GKs 1001 or 2001 models. Or try any amp you can get your hands into: Ashdown, Aguilar, SWR, GK, whatever.

I generally dont like Ampeg on AMpeg. The ampeg cabs are kind of muddy and paired w. GKs clear and punhy sound, work great.

    Take care...
