I'm thinking of building a bass with 2 MM pickups. Is Lane Poor a good choice or do you know of a better replacement? An included pre-amp isn't really needed or necessarily wanted...

bartolini and basslines make very good MM replacement pickups, specialy bartolini. They have a very wide choice of coil design just like Lane Poor has.

I'm building my bass too, I use a EMG40cs soapbar pickup.

    look into http://www.bartolini.net

How do you get them to custom make them? I would like some 6 string ones.

tried the Seymour Duncan preamp and pickup (stainless) in one of my Sterlings...took the balls clean out of an Ernie Ball MM. Try the Lane or the Bartolini.
