Hi all. So I've been GASing for another Jazz-style bass for a while, and an ash/maple DJ4 seems to fit the bill very nicely. I'm looking for people who have found good prices on the Lakland Darryl Jones 4 string and where they've found them. Don't mind the location - I'm in the UK but am happy to order from USA. Bass Central seems to be about $1099. Musician's Friend was $1299. Anyone got any other good prices from dealers? Thanks in advance. Pete
Give Steve "Dude" Barr a shout at thedudepit.com He has a Lakland forum and sells a lot of Laklands at very good prices.
Another thought I've had. Anyone know if these basses are compatible with the Graphtech piezo systems? Anyone done this? I've been looking at making my own project bass for a while......it'd be a lot easier to take a DJ and mod it with piezos than to completely construct my own....although I may still have to do this. Pete
I'm posting a (?final) response to my own thread. Managed to score a Pearl White maple-neck DJ4 on eBay for $850 secondhand [plus shipping]. 1 month old, buying from original owner. Selling as needs cash. Maybe a tad expensive for those based in the USA - secondhand it should really be probably closer to $700-$750, I should think - but for me, based in the UK, it's a bargain. Even in spite of import taxes and VAT. Hurrah for beneficial exchange rates! BTW, the best prices I got from various people listed here panned out at about $1050 plus varying amounts for shipping to the UK, from $125 with the Dude (best price) to $350+ from Bass Central (!!!!). I think it's safe to say that Dude had the best price overall, so, barring eBay or secondhand deals, I guess I'd recommend to others to go with him. Especially as he gets good feedback around here.
